RODNEY MILLER AND ELVIE MILLER - Spyglass Waltzes
Brimstone Corner Records BCR002
Spyglass Waltzes is a programme of waltzes played by Rodney Miller on fiddle and his daughter Elvie on piano and accordion. Rodney and Elvie are stalwarts of the New England contra dance scene where the waltz is so popular that waltz only evenings are not uncommon. Of course that does not mean that this CD will not get a welcome anywhere else.
Dancers of the waltz will obviously get most pleasure from this CD. However non-dancers like me, will find Spyglass Waltzes a rewarding listening experience. The impeccable musicianship with the dynamic interplay between instruments that speaks of long experience of playing together and the fine arrangements should keep most listeners happy. If you think an entire CD of waltzes might be a little too much of a good thing, not so. There is enough variety here to keep everyone interested and entertained. The music of Rodney and Elvie Miller is new to me. Spyglass Waltzes is a fine introduction.
