The album will comprises a mixture of traditional songs learnt from traditional singers and various archive sources. Vinyl albums 'LAYERS' (VSCD-832) & 'ALL THINGS IN COMMON' (VSCD-837)
finally released on CD!
The world is full of surprises and odd occurrences one of the stranger ones
to come my way in 2002 was the decision by Vivid a Japanese company to re-release
my two Vinyl albums originally released on Topic Records.
In the late '70's I released two widely acclaimed solo albums. 'Layers' (with guest performances by Nic Jones on fiddle) was voted best newcomer of the year for 1977 in the Guardian newspaper. 'All Things In Common' (with guest performances by Graham and Eileen Pratt) was released two years later.
Copies of the original vinyl albums have been virtually impossible to get hold of for many years, so for those people who keep asking where they can get a copy, the good news is that both albums are now out on CD and available in the UK. The CD's are packed in a card sleeve contained in a plastic wallet so they look like an exact miniature copy of the original vinyl albums. The sleeve contains an insert sheet with all the original sleeve notes in both English and Japanese.
Full track listings and words of all the songs can be found in the 'Recordings' section of this web site.
Copies of these rare imports will be exclusively available in the UK by direct mail from: Green Man Productions 21 Sebright Avenue, Worcester, WR5 2HH, England at a cost of £15 sterling including post and packing in the UK and £18 sterling elsewhere. Pay Pal account available. If paying by cheque please make cheques payable to C J Foster.
'TRACES'
(LTCD3003)
My last solo CD, 'Traces',
was released to coincide with my 1999 Canadian tour. 'Traces' contains
12 songs, 10 of which are traditional, the other 2 are by Leon Rosselson. 10
of the tracks have guitar accompaniment, 2 are sung unaccompanied. The album
is a completely solo recording with the exception of one chord contributed by
Mick Strode.
Full track listings and words of all the songs can be found in the 'Recordings' section of this web site.
Other recordings
'FUNI' (GMCD002)
A stunning new album of traditional songs from Iceland with Icelandic singer
Bára Grímsdóttir. The CD was recorded in England and includes squeezebox virtuoso
John Kirkpatrick on four tracks. The CD includes songs written by Bára's parents
and grandparents alongside other unusual traditional songs never previously
recorded.
Bára Grímsdóttir is one of the finest singers of Icelandic folk songs around today. Her crystal clear voice is the perfect vehicle to carry the haunting melodies of one of the least known song traditions in Europe. With poetry going back a thousand years to the first Viking settlers and mysterious modal melodies reflecting the breathtaking wild beauty of her native land, it deserves to reach a much wider audience beyond Iceland's rocky shores.
On her stunning new CD 'Funi', Bára is joined by Chris Foster and John Kirkpatrick. The resulting combination of Bára's pure shimmering voice, with Chris' exquisite guitar playing and John's squeezebox virtuosity, is a spell binding mix guaranteed to make the spine tingle and warm the coldest heart.
Total playing time 48.33

'AS WE WALKED
OUT' (MBCD01)
A delightful collection of songs written and sung by Sally Goldsmith with guitar
arrangements played by Chris Foster. This album of songs about walking and the
environment of the Peak District was released in 2001. The songs were written
for a live show celebrating older people who walk the beautiful countryside
of the Peak District. Many of whom were involved in the freedom to roam campaigns
of the 1930's. The Kinder Mass trespass of 1932 was the inspiration behind Ewan
Macoll's 'Manchester Rambler'.
