Biography
Graham O’Callaghan has been described
as having one of the finest voices in the West Country and he is certainly very
much at home in the company of this country's leading and most respected traditional
singers.
His work with the popular three-part harmony group, Jinks’ Stack, made him a regular visitor to many of this country’s leading festivals and folk clubs. Since the demise of the group he is now satisfying the demands of those who have wished to hear more of his solo repertoire and unique singing style working as a solo performer, but also on occasions with accompaniment working with Tim van Eyken and Rob Harbron.
His early work with folk song came about during his more "classical" days whilst performing arrangements by Britten and Vaughn Williams but he soon became embedded in the tradition and has now been performing traditional song for over 25 years.
Graham has always taken great inspiration from music and continues to have a great appreciation of the great pastoral arrangements found within the English classical tradition. This has led him to develop a singing style which enables him to place some of the finest interpretations on songs that you are likely to hear with no compromises being made for "gimmickry".
"It came as no surprise to me to learn that Graham O’Callaghan is an alumini of the Jolly Porter folk club in Exeter. It is a club of precious memory to me, as it was a place where the regular singers were as good as most of the guests. They had style, commitment, knowledge of the music and an obvious love and enjoyment of singing. Graham has their qualities".
