BILL WHALEY & DAVE FLETCHER "Their Fine Array" Bilda 001

It would be easy to say of this "two singers doing the kind of stuff they've done in their local clubs for years", but that would be selling it short. True enough, it is "two singers ... etc." and the repertoire is fairly standard - "Three Score & Ten", "Red is the Rose", "Joe Peel", Galway Shawl", but this is not just some amateur effort good only for themselves and their aunties. It's not a vanity album.

The thing is that these two stalwarts of the Lincolnshire folk scene CAN SING, and PLAY their array of instruments. Experienced over twenty years with clubs, festivals, morris sides and ceilidh bands they have learned how to tell the story in song, and they do it well. OK their album won't top the folk charts (who needs folk charts) but there must be a place for real folkies like these good lads to do their piece. I like this album as much as many by more famous names. I recommend it to all who love good honest singing. And now Lincolnshire, how about one from the truly wonderful Brian Dawson?
