| FERGIE MacDONALD - "The 21st Album" - Greentrax CDTRAX129 | ||||
|
Fergie MacDonald, owner of the Clanranald Hotel, Moidart, has been a west coast legend in dance music circles with his superb button box sound for over thirty years. His first album "Dance to Your Partner" is now a collector's item; this, his 21st will not disappoint his many fans. The line-up of nine musicians include Iain MacDonald on "Piob Bheag" and flute, Iain MacFarlane on fiddle and whistle and Colm O'Ruaidh on banjo.
This is music to dance to. We have four sets of jigs - one actually named "West Highland Strip the Willow" - all at a breathtaking pace which capture the atmosphere of the best part of a ceilidh - the part you work up to all night with totally uninhibited dancing.
There's contrast as well. There are two sets of Gaelic waltzes with beautiful tunes, pipe marches for Gay Gordons, a highland schottishe set and many fine reels. The tunes have been carefully chosen with a nice balance between traditional and recently composed and three Irish sets which reflect his following in Ireland. Maggie Macrae |
