VARIOUS ARTISTS "Folkal Point : Edinburgh" Greentrax CDTRAX168

Subtitled "Traditional Music from a New Generation", this is an album that delivers exactly what it says. All of the eighteen bands/soloists featured are based in, or around, Edinburgh, and this sampler album is very representative of the younger players currently on the Edinburgh music scene.

An entertaining introduction from Clare McLaughlin (from Deaf Shepherd and Kick - both featured on the album) also reveals a lot about her partying and drinking habits! She has provided comprehensive notes on each track with a history of "who played with who" which helps to keep track of the over-lapping lineups of some of the bands involved.

A well chosen mixture includes Shooglenifty, Eilidh Shaw, Jim Malcolm, Martyn Bennett, Corner House, Anam, Burach and many more!

If you're visiting Edinburgh, try some of the pubs listed - and the chances are that some of the musicians on this fine album will be there too!
