JOE RYAN "An Buachall Oreoite" Clo Iar-Chonnacta CICD113

My only previous experience of Joe Ryan's fiddle playing is the notable "Crossroads" cassette, Green Linnet CSIF 1030, recorded with harmonica player Eddie Clarke in 1981. As good as this cassette is, it gives little idea of what a gem this recording is, "An Buachall Oreoite" is a joy from start to finish.

Recorded in May 1992 by Harry Bradshaw these recordings by the Multi-competition winner Joe Ryan are superb.

Joe is originally from West Clare and it is fair to say that while his playing is firmly settled in the "Old Style" it is also uniquely his own. A versatile repertoire played in a subtle, technical and steady manner with unobtrusive but spot on accompaniment by Jim Macardle, guitar and autoharp. This is traditional music as it should be played, and listened to.

I hope that everyone with a genuine interest in the tradition will listen to this CD more than once, it gets better with each playing.

A short review! These recordings, speak for themselves. A must.
