HAMISH IMLACH "Sonny's Dream" Lismor LCOM7006

A CD re-issue of Hamish's album that introduced the song "Sonny's Dream" to many a repertoire. The album is a good representation of Hamish's club performances with songs such as "Cod Liver Oil and the Orange Juice", "Goodbye Booze", "D Day Dodgers" and a compelling version of "Parcel of Rogues" but the highlight is undoubtable the title track with backing vocals by Mary Black and accompaniment by Donal Lunny.

The bulk of the album captures Hamish on good form and will please his fans as a reminder of a live performance but the missing "live" ingredient will probably mean that it will fail to impress new listeners. The "Sonny's Dream" track however, has the added touch needed on a recording to give it that extra appeal which for many will make it the "definitive" version.

An album for the fans, but if Hamish could dig out an album of material to match "Sonny" it would be a different kettle of fish altogether.
