RAB NOAKES with FRASER SPEIRS "Lights Back On"
Neon Productions Neoncd002

The title of this CD refers back to the first ever Rab Noakes album to hit the streets "Do You See The Lights?" which introduced the young Fife singer/songwriter to the general public. Over the years Rab has been involved in loads of musical projects, both as performer and producer, and here he settles himself in with Fraser to come up with a laid-back, bluesy selection which shows a maturity that reflects some of the influences in his musical career.

The balance is almost evenly split between self-composed numbers and cover versions, ranging from Dylan's 'Billy' through Sam Cooke's 'Bring It On Home' to 'Walking The Dog' and 'Spanish Harlem', proving conclusively that these guys play what they want to play, what they like playing and what they enjoy. That enjoyment comes through to the listener, too. This isn't playing for the money, this is playing for the music, getting into the mood of the material and letting that mood seep through the whole approach to really strike home.

Somehow you get the feeling that you shouldn't be listening to this in the comfort of your own home, but rather in the corner of a late-night bar, somewhere on the wrong side of town, after hours and in slightly dubious company. W ell, get the CD and see what I mean - the rest's up to you!
