VARIOUS ARTISTS "Huntingdon Folk Vol 2" Speaking Volumes SVL06CD

This is a curious album, evidently produced to raise funds for an arts centre in Worcester, presumably by people who have performed at the establishment, Huntingdon Hall. Unfortunately, there don't appear to be any tracks recorded at the venue, there are only a couple of unreleased tracks and the information provided is a little on the sparse side.

The bonus is that there isn't a duff track on the CD - well perhaps one, but wild horses couldn't drag its title from me. I believe the CD costs around o12, but even at full price it would be worth it for Sandy Brechin's set of tunes, an unreleased tour de force from Thought Gang and Isla St Clair's haunting version of "Macrimmon's Lament".

Throw in a bit of cajun, the House Band's "Seven Yellow Gypsies" and Huw & Tony Williams singing Huw's "This Place, This Town", and you have both value and variety. So I'll forgive Huntingdon Folk 2's artwork the hyperbole of "from the greatest names in folk", because if it does nothing else it shows what a wonderful mix of music we who are interested in the folk scene are lucky to enjoy.
