Gordeanna’s involvement in traditional music began at the famous Rutherglen Academy Ballads Club in the sixties.  It was run by her then English teacher, Norman Buchan, a man with a deep love of – and huge influence upon – Scottish traditional music and song.  Her early promise quickly led to a recording on the Topic Label, and since then she has gone on to become one of the most accomplished and respected of all Scotland’s traditional performers.

For many years the lead voice of one of Scotland’s most important groups, The Clutha, she was also part of the powerful harmony ensemble Palaver.

The words of ‘Tam I’ The Kirk’, the solo Gordeanna performs on this recording, came from one of Scotland’s great poets, Violet Jacob, and the tune was adapted from McCunn’s Scottish Dances by W.H. Hamilton.
