Mind to Ramble
Eddie Walker is a big, smiley Teesider who plays great finger-style guitar, and even if "Mind To Ramble" wasn't "dedicated to the memory of Mississippi John Hurt 1892-1966", we wouldn't need to be Masterminds to identify Eddie's major influence. As well as the Walker-penned title track in the style of the Great Man, there's also a cover of Hurt's "Got The Blues (Just Can't be Satisfied)" later on. Chances are if we sawed Eddie in half we'd find he had John Hurt written right through him.

There are other influences and other cover versions - Doc Watson, Buddy Holly, John Prine and Steve Goodman all provide Eddie with top-class material (as well as inspiration for his original songs and tunes) - and there's an extraordinary version of how "Raglan Road" would've sounded if the Carter Family had ever recorded it.

It's a solo effort throughout which faithfully presents Eddie's fine playing and, with the assistance of some extensive and entertaining liner-notes, goes a long way towards reflecting his basic philosophy. He is a well-travelled, hard-working professional musician, and this CD should sell by the barrow-load after each and every one of his gigs.
